More Examples of White Privilege
A student of mine who does not look white was recently at the library with two friends who do look white. When they left, all passing through the security scanner at the same time, the alarm went off. Only the non-white student was accosted by the librarian and asked to come back in order to have is book bag searched.
Even if my student was wrong about passing through at the same time (maybe he was noticeably behind the others?) and even if he was accidentally or unintentionally identified by the librarian, the following is still a matter of privilege:
White students don’t have to wonder if they were identified or searched in these sorts of cases because of their race.
