Another Example of White Privilege

May 5, 2009

If you’re a minority and you’re discussing the unfair barriers put in the way of your success in society then you’re “whining.”

If you’re white and you’re discussing the unfair barriers affirmative action puts in the way of your success then you’re just talking about what’s right and wrong.

I’ve even heard whites complain that affirmative action actually has a negative effect on blacks’ perception of black professionals. The argument is that blacks will think that blacks who actually make it into their professions are unqualified, even to the point that they won’t trust going to black doctors for medical care. I mean…seriously?

OK, back to watching Glenn Beck…

If you’re white and you’re discussing the unfair barriers affirmative action puts in the way of your success then you’re just talking about what’s right and wrong.

And you’re also ignoring how the primary beneficiaries of affirmative action have been (historically) white people and (contemporaneously) white women.

    I hate white people.

This may be why I have a self-esteem problem.

But seriously, it pisses me off that whites don’t see how SO much is in their favor, not just historically, but NOW. I’ve got a lot of educating to do to my fellow whiteys (and I need to keep learning a thing or two myself).
