Obama and Afghanistan
I’m basically talking out of my ass here—I really have no idea what I’m talking about. But the following thoughts just came to mind:
Americans seem to think just pulling out and leaving Iraq is a bad idea: “If we pull out now then all those soldiers died for nothing ….”
Simultaneously, Americans by and large seem to think that the presence of the military in Afghanistan is more acceptable than in Iraq (probably because they see the former as a giant refugee camp more so than as an identifiable, self-governing nation-state that wants America to leave).
How can Obama leave Iraq and stay in Iraq at the same time?
Move the army over to Afghanistan!
Americans who can’t tell the difference between Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkey, and Greece (yes, they’re that fucking dumb) can think to themselves that were leaving and staying all at the same time.
This would only work if the American public had both a great deal of cognitive dissonance and a manifest inability to distinguish between nations that are, you know, over there somewhere.
I think Americans might be up to the task.
