This Stuff Makes Me Sick

September 20, 2009

I received the following email forward today from a family member. It is because of stuff like this that I’m going to have to spend four weeks of my Western Religions course deconstructing Muslim stereotypes. This is why critical thinking has to be an essential component of all my courses.

eid

Perfect!! Another historic low!!

USPS New 44-Cent Stamp!!! Celebrates Muslim holiday.

If  there is only ONE thing you forward  today…. let it be  this!

REMEMBER  the MUSLIM bombing of Pan Am Flight 103!

REMEMBER  the MUSLIM bombing of the World Trade Center in  1993!

REMEMBER  the MUSLIM bombing of the Marine Barracks in Lebanon !

REMEMBER  the MUSLIM bombing of the military Barracks in Saudi Arabia !

REMEMBER  the MUSLIM bombing of the American Embassies in Africa !

REMEMBER  the MUSLIM bombing of the USS COLE!

REMEMBER  the MUSLIM attack on 9/11/2001!

REMEMBER  all the AMERICAN lives that were lost in those  vicious MUSLIM attacks!

Now  President Obama has directed the United States Postal Service to REMEMBER and  HONOR the EID MUSLIM holiday season with a new  commemorative 44 Cent First Class Holiday Postage Stamp.

REMEMBER  to adamantly & vocally BOYCOTT this  stamp, when you are purchasing your stamps at the post office.

All  you have to say is “No thank  you, I do not want that Muslim Stamp on my  letters!”

To use  this stamp would be a slap in the face to all  those AMERICANS who died at the hands of those  whom this stamp honors.

REMEMBER ~ pass this  along to every Patriotic  AMERICAN that you know and lets get the word  out !!!

Here is  something to chew on …

They (MUSLIMS) don’t even believe in Christ, & they’re  getting their own Christmas stamp! BUT,  don’t dare to dream of posting the ten commandments  on federal property! This is truly UNBELIEVABLE !!!

To risk stating the obvious:

  1. The Muslims who performed the acts listed are not representative of all Muslims, any more than the Christians who launched the Crusades are representative of all Christians.
  2. Eid is not Christmas, so this isn’t a Christmas stamp.
  3. While Christians might not be able to get a ten commandments stamp, they have had and continue to have Christmas stamps.
  4. This stamp was not ordered by Obama.
  5. It is not true, as this wrongly implies, that “American” or “American Patriot” and “Muslim” are mutually exclusive identities.

    Neither of us are Muslim.

What is the point of a multicultural society if you can’t use it as an excuse to celebrate extra holidays?

  3. September 20, 2009 9:39 am

Haven’t stamps like this been around for a long time?

It’s very disturbing that this kind of mentality is allowed to pervade our society. Without the help of larger media structures these types of ideas wouldn’t be nearly as widely propagated. A great example of how much impact this neo-crusade against Muslims is the documentary Jesus Camp by Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady.

Personally I think this sort of thing is quite advanced for an email circular; what I’m really sick of are the million circulars I get telling me about kids kidnapped, or people with cancer and other sob stories and asking me to pass on the email. Why? Also, why do I care if these people are dying? I’m dying too, at the rate of 24 hours per diem. Bottom line: all email circulars suck, even the non-bigoted ones.

“Haven’t stamps like this been around for a long time?”

Oh, no! Muslim Fuhrer Obama has decreed that the USPS, a branch of the liberal fascist bureaucracy, spread Muslim propaganda through the mail in order to destroy Christianity! :P

Oh for the love of all that is holy, those stamps were introduced in 2001!

Give me a break…what a bunch of lunatics…Neocons and christian zealots have got to find another foe for a change…This is an old and tired replay….

Oh FFS, that stamp isn’t new, it’s been around for eight years. It wasn’t ordered by Obama and it has nothing to do with Christmas. Someone has updated a 7-year-old chain e-mail to reflect their hatred of Obama and it’s going around again. What is it with some people that they blindly believe and perpetuate some of the most ignorant propaganda around?

I’m gonna’ start sending Christmas cards to my conservative relatives just so I can put these stamps on them.
